Follow-on Practical Apiary Visit for Bee-ginners

Now that you have completed our online Bee-ginner Course, we would love to welcome you to our apiary in Co. Longford and introduce you to our Native Irish Honeybees in person.

During your visit, you will be welcomed to our newly refurbished, stone-clad honey cottage, where a hot cup of tea or coffee and freshly baked scones will be waiting for you. In our practical workshops you will have an opportunity to:

  • handle and examine all the equipment which we use,
  • prepare and make up frames,
  • become a real-life beekeeper in provided suits and gloves,
  • handle Native Irish Honeybees in our hives and learn how to carry out a hive inspection,
  • discuss concerns and successes in beekeeping,
  • learn how you can extract honey using our extractor.

This day is designed as a follow up for individuals who have already completed one of our online courses.  If you have not completed a course with us, we would suggest that you sign up to our Beekeeping Taster Day.

 

COVID 19 restrictions mean that we cannot hold our Follow-on days for now. However, when restrictions lift to a level which allows us to host you, we look forward to welcoming you to The Long Garden.
