Description

During this fascinating day, participants will enjoy Tea/Coffee and freshly baked scones on arrival in our stone clad Irish cottage. The course will begin with an interesting presentation on the Honeybee and The Role of the Beekeeper.  Participants will have ample opportunity to familiarise themselves with equipment and have lots of fun through some of the games which will test you as a potential beekeeper. Then it is time to become a real-life beekeeper in our suits and gloves which are provided. We will visit the hives on our farm, which is located right on the edge of the peat bog with a beautiful view of Sliabh Ban in the distance.  Participants will have an opportunity to handle the frames, identify types of bees in the hive and become familiar with how the hive works. Upon return to our beautiful honey house, we will examine the produce of the hive in the form of honey and wax products.

We provide everything that you will need, including suits and gloves for the day.  We just ask that you bring an open mind for all that we can learn from the honeybee, and a pair of wellies!  The course begins at 10.30am with tea/coffee on arrival and ends at approximately 1.30pm.
